Pupil Premium

The Pupil Premium Grant

The Pupil Premium is an allocation of additional funding provided to schools to support specific groups of children who are vulnerable to possible underachievement. These include pupils who are entitled to free school meals, those looked after by the local authority, children who have been adopted and children of armed service personnel.

At Meppershall CE Academy we are committed to promoting the progress and attainment of all our pupils, whatever their backgrounds.

Our Pupil Premium Grant

Meppershall CE Academy received a total of £20,000 pupil premium for the 2015 - 2016 academic year as a direct grant from the DfE.  This also included pupils eligible for FSM at any point in the last six years (known as the Ever 6 FSM measure).

During the academic year (2015-2016) 14.1% of Meppershall pupils have been allocated Pupil premium funding.

This is how we have spent our Pupil Premium Grant in 2015/16:

  • We have a dedicated team of trained support staff who work across the school to ensure access to the curriculum by the provision of specific interventions in reading, writing, maths and emotional support for children who are not making expected progress or reaching national levels of attainment.
  • We have engaged the services of a Play Therapist and a Counsellor who provide support to children with emotional needs. They work on a one to one basis with the children and provide therapy and counselling to help support them through difficult times in their lives.
  • We fund children to take part in the Young Voices concert at the 02 arena in London.
  • We have funded pupil and family services where necessary.
  • We provide trips and visitors to enrich the curriculum and ensure all children have learning experiences outside the normal school day. For example, the children were taken on a number of trips and experienced a residential trip to PGL in Year 4.
  • We purchased Numicon Kits for our Early Years classrooom and KS1 classrooms. Training for the teachers has also been provided.
  • We purchased Literacy books for our older pupils who find reading difficult. The books were written to appeal to these children, without seeming to be too young for them.
  • We buy uniform.

Impact of Pupil Premium

Children in receipt of Pupil Premium are monitored closely. We have a tracking system which enables us to track the progress and attainment of children in Reading, Writing and Numeracy on a half termly basis. This is analysed to ensure that all children are reaching their full potential in their learning. Our pupil premium pupils do well at our school.

Our cohorts are  small and each year group is different in both number on roll and in its context; however overall progress shows that our PP children are working well.
