Acorns - Reception

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

Our youngest children start school in Acorns class where they follow The Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum. Topics are planned that follow the children’s interests, capture their imagination and develop their learning in the following areas:

  • Communication and Language
  • Literacy
  • Physical Development
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the world
  • Expressive arts and design

The children engage in a range of activities that are based on first-hand experiences around these areas of learning which the children can access both inside and outside the classroom.

Acorns Newsletter – Sept 2017

Dear Parents/Carers,

We hope your children are enjoying their first days of ‘big’ school! We have been so impressed with how well they have coped with the many new routines and we feel confident that this will continue over the coming weeks. We are so proud of them all.

This half term our topic in Acorns is called, Magical Me! This is a lovely first topic as the children will be exploring all about themselves! We will be learning about many things including: our families, homes and pets; what makes us special; what we look like; the parts of the body and how we have changed since we were babies.

This is what our weekly routine will be once the children are in school full time:

Show and Tell Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Can we ask that show and tell items are related to our topic. If your child shows an interest in what we are learning, we love to see and display things the children have created, for example, pictures, paintings, writing, photographs etc.

PE – Tuesdays and Fridays.

Library – Thursdays.

Reading book changeover – Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Each Friday we will send home our class mascot, Bertie Bear, with one of the children for the weekend, along with his diary for your child to document Bertie’s time with them! Photos and drawings are welcomed along with any notes you or your child wish to write. We are sure you will all wait in anticipation for Bertie to visit…!

If you have any questions or queries, please do not hesitate to ask.

We are looking forward to an exciting half term!

Thank you for your support.
